Intensive Watercolor Workshop
by Julián Pesce and David Chalten
Water is undoubtedly a fantastic and essential element for all life. It is also the medium for different types of painting, including watercolor. In this intensive workshop, we will address various aspects of this painting technique, which has an intimate relationship with water like no other. This relationship, along with paper, allows for a very particular luminosity characteristic of watercolor. Unlike oil or acrylic, which are opaque materials, watercolor is transparent. This leads us to approach painting from the perspective of transparency and layering of paint. Practicing this technique will help us learn and understand how glazing works, and we can apply this knowledge to any other material used, such as diluting acrylic with water or oil with turpentine.
This will be an intensive workshop where you will receive a lot of technical and theoretical information, suitable for those who already use this material and want to improve, as well as for beginners who want to continue exploring watercolor on their own.
During the first two days, we will explore the principles of colors and their relationships, the importance of complementary colors, and how much can be achieved with just the three primary colors. We will also present different artists who have used watercolor, demonstrating its versatility.
