BIENALSUR
Conceived as a space for a contemporary humanism
The biennial began with a series of ideas aimed at experimenting with other formats and dynamics for contemporary art that would avoid, as much as possible, replicating the canonical North-South dynamics. Starting with the SUR GLOBAL encounters, in 2015 the construction of a space for exchange and dialogue with global aspirations began.
Since then, they have spent ten years in dialogue with artists, curators, cultural managers, thinkers, communities, and institutions that have helped shape each project and now constitute what is called the BIENALSUR Community.
In each edition, BIENALSUR creates a unique cartography in which each space is a center and, at the same time, can be recognized as part of a larger framework that engages both the local and the global community.
Ten years have passed. The parameters we used to think with are under tension. The world today is different, and the global landscape has changed. Therefore, as they launch their 5th edition, the organizers invite us to ask (once again) how to build from uncertainty.
